Ruby Lanet is an LA-based filmmaker who focuses on character-driven films. Since receiving her BA in Film Studies at Wesleyan University, she’s worked in producing, archival, and research capacities for directors Liz Garbus, Danny Lee, Sara Goldblatt, Jimmy Chin & Chai Vasarhelyi, and more.
Working on these projects, with production companies like A24, Muck Media, Story Syndicate, RadicalMedia, Little Monster Films, and more, have given her a wide exposure to the various creative processes that lead to innovative, exciting, and truthful filmmaking. She’s also independently produced projects that have screened at Sundance, Hot Docs, Ji.hlava IDFF, HollyShorts, Santa Fe IFF, AAIFF, etc.
Her documentary career has informed her personal work, in both fiction and non-fiction, giving her a propensity for excavating details, experimenting with perspective, and toying with the thin line between reality and fantasy. Born with a profound hearing loss but raised in a hearing world, she is keenly aware of the sensorial experience of subjectivity and access. Ruby aims to make films that draw attention to the hidden experiences of disability as an avenue for magic and not merely struggle.
She is a proud WGA-E member and FWD:DOC member.
